The club
Our club, founded in 1997, joint to the museums management played a decisive part in the success of the museum. Particularly the club members of the first hour invested a lot of time.
Highlights are the transfer and the installation of large airplanes like the ILJUSHIN 62. The history of the IL62 will be presented soon.
After the club´s base was constructed it was currently important to look through all items in stock, to identify those and to prepare them for exhibition purposes. At least the documentation is an important part of this work up to the present, because nearly every day new items to display are given to the museum. It is worth mentioning, that November, the 24th in 2011 a glider type FOKA 5 was given to the museum from a private owner. It is the 66th airplane of the exhibition.
We are not only interested in exhibits, but take trouble to maintain and restore those items affected by time. Since a few weeks we are working at a LILIENTHAL-Glider bringing it to new life, the glider is approximately 100 years of age. If the project runs through (and it looks like), we will present this airplane in early 2012 as the 67th exhibit of airplanes to our visitors.
In our monthly meetings (Every first thursday of each month 18:00h)we discuss several points like new projects and new exhibitions. We are also discussing problems, which affect us and our work. Many of our club members are in a higher age, which does not allow them to take permanent part in our club´s life. Therefore we are instantly in effort to get younger people as club members. Even though we got ten new members in the outgoing 2011 we would be pleased particularly about young and technically interested new members. The only requirement for membership is working on voluntary base on honorary post.
