The history of the Museums-Park
In the year of 1995 Mr. Schoenau has been told, that in Merseburg existed an area on which up to 1991 the Soviet Air Force has moved and that this area was not in use anymore. Also in the times before, Merseburg was closely connected to air services. Because of Cologne, Butzweiler Hof an existing museum was closed because of the sale of this Bundeswehr-Estate, Mr. Schoenau decided to inspect closely other suitable objects, to store safely the exhibits of the museum.
On a sighting of the area of the former airfield of Merseburg came up the decision to erect a brandnew "Luftfahrtmuseum und Technikmuseum in Merseburg" In a very short time he modified a plan which was developed for Cologne for the circumstances in Merseburg. The initialization of the "Luftfahrt- und Technik-Museumspark Merseburg" was on start.
Already at the end of 1996 the first exhibits were transported to Merseburg and the museum grew up. Mr.Schoenau applied to all institutions and officials for translating his ideas. If there were airplanes, fire department vehicles,(motor)bikes, steam engines or flat iron, all necessary item for a technical museum were searched and found. Today on more then 60.000 square meters more than 50.000 exhibits are shown in different divisions of the exhibition.
In summer of 2012 we will celebrate the 15th. Anniversary and we look joyfully forward to your visit.
